 Desert survival

After an initial conference our drivers collected the teams and took them to an extremely dramatic area of large dunes on the North Eastern edge of the Empty Quarter. There they were met by our facilitators and desert survival experts and piles of poles, rope, tarpaulins, camping stoves and the rations necessary for them to make a shelter and cook a basic supper for their teams. After a short briefing, they happily set to, constructing their accommodation and cooking their supper for the night. Our team of facilitators provided useful knowledge of desert survival and ensured that the teams were very jolly even though they believed they were sleeping out under the stars in the biggest sand desert in the world. As sunset approached cold drinks were suggested on the dune behind their 'camp'. Using various methods including 4wds, quadbikes, foot and sandboards they all made it to the top, where the sundowner turned into a toast, as all were rewarded with fantastic views over the desert and views directly into the luxury camp that had been set up on the other side of the dune.

The atmosphere was exultant as they sped into camp to sample the real tents they were to stay in. Our staff team greeted them with ice cold flannels, icy drinks and suddenly desert survival seemed very easy! Egyptian cotton sheets and feather pillows are always a luxury in the desert but the contrast ensured that desert life appeared very good indeed.
