A picnic near the ancient tombs of the Umm Naa people

The track across the Selma plateau passes ancient villages that were, until a couple of years ago, only accessible on foot or by donkey, our route takes us to a high ridge on the far side.

This long, west facing ridge is spectacularly lined with numerous bee hive tombs built by the Umm Naa people in around 2500 BC.  This is where we serve a sumptuous, freshly prepared lunch, Bedouin style on traditional rugs and cushions and under a large shade. This is a picnic spot that takes some beating, perched on the edge of a steep precipice and beside a wonderfully preserved bee hive tomb with huge views out over the Western Hajar mountains.

In addition to setting up spectacular picnics for large groups here, we visit the beehive tombs as part of our Northern Itinerary.  Also guests visiting our Wahiba camp using one of our guides can request to be taken in using this route.  A word of warning, this route is only accessible during good weather.
